So was a slashed peak a Guards / RSM kudos thing then?
My dad, who did his National Service in the 1950s, recalls that an EM slashing the peak of his cap was practically a Court Martial offence. They were all warned in no uncertain terms not to farq about with the property of HM Armed Forces
All corps and regiments have foibles and fashions that will have you on a charge in another regiment.
An example being the Royal Green Jackets dont wear belts on their combat jackets around lines and barracks.
On a course at Catterick I became mates with a 'slack jacket' called O'Hallaran who was always getting shouted out by provosts and NCos to 'get a fucking belt on' and then having to explain his regiment didnt wear them.
There are *millions* of tribal distinctions in the army its generally what the CO, the RSM or history dictates and tends to overide the main set of regulations or have exception to them written in.

I dunno there is a 'premium price/percieved value' theory where it can make sense.
